Seller Terms
Last updated: November 7, 2026
1. About these terms
These Seller Terms apply if you list anything on Scout, or use a lead agent, alerts, shop pages or other seller features. They add to the Terms of Use, and words defined there have the same meaning here. You may sell as a registered business or as an individual, including through a private personal workspace.
You confirm that you are lawfully allowed to sell what you list where you sell it, and that any business details you give are true.
2. Setting up
You can set up in the Scout WhatsApp chat or on the website, by giving your business name, your country and any website or social pages. When you give us a website, social page or product link, you confirm that it is yours or that you are authorized to use it, and you allow us to read it and to copy its text, photos and videos to the Service.
Anything proposed from your website, posts or photos, including descriptions, prices, products and search phrases, is a suggestion and can be wrong. You must check it. Once you approve or use it, you are responsible for it as if you had written it.
3. Listing rules
You are solely responsible for your Listings. Every Listing must:
- Be for a real product or service that you can supply.
- Describe it accurately and honestly, including its condition, any defects, and whether it is new, used or refurbished.
- Show the real price where you give one, in the right currency, including anything a Buyer must pay that the law requires you to show.
- Use photos and videos of the actual item, or be clear when they are only examples.
- Be kept up to date. Remove or mark Listings as soon as they are sold or unavailable.
- Follow the Acceptable Use policy and every law that applies to what you sell, including licensing, labelling, product safety and consumer protection rules.
4. Photos, videos and your rights
You must own the photos, videos and text you use, or have permission to use them. Do not use someone else's images, or show identifiable people without the permission the law requires. Blur or leave out number plates, documents and personal details you do not want shown.
5. Showing your Listings
When a Listing is published, it may appear to Buyers in WhatsApp, in the marketplace, on your shop and share pages, in search results and in comparisons with other Sellers' Listings. Shop and share links can be opened by anyone who has them. For personal workspaces, each item starts private and appears to Buyers only after you choose to publish it.
You can make an item private or remove it. It then stops appearing in Buyer searches. Copies already sent in chats cannot be recalled, and it may take a short time for changes to appear everywhere.
We do not promise any position, number of views or level of exposure. We may refuse, change the display of, or remove any Listing.
6. Potential Buyers
6.1 What they are
A Potential Buyer is a person who may be interested. A Potential Buyer is not an order, a payment, a deposit or a promise to buy. People change their minds, and a post may be old, misread or not meant as a request to buy.
6.2 No guarantee
We do not guarantee any number of Potential Buyers, any quality of Potential Buyers, any sale, or any revenue. Results vary by product, price, place and network, and past results do not predict future ones. Paying for Credits does not buy a sale.
6.3 Scores and location
Scores are automated estimates and can be wrong. Scout considers things such as what was asked, the age of the post, the kind of product and the person's apparent location, but these signals are imperfect. A person may be elsewhere, or may already have bought.
6.4 Requests that are withdrawn
A Buyer can ask Scout to stop. Scout may then close that Potential Buyer, hide their details, or tell you to disregard the request. If it does, you must stop contacting them.
6.5 Your feedback improves your results
When you mark a Potential Buyer as Won, Not a buyer or similar, we use that to improve how your agent scores in future.
7. Contacting people
Scout never contacts anyone on your behalf. Any contact is yours, and you are solely responsible for it. You must:
- Read every draft before you use it, and correct anything wrong, including prices, availability and promises. A draft is not checked for accuracy.
- Follow the law, including rules on direct marketing, unsolicited messages, consumer protection and data protection.
- Follow the rules of each network. Some limit automated, repeated or unsolicited messages, and breaking them can get your own account restricted. That risk is yours.
- Contact a person only about what they asked for, be honest about who you are, and stop immediately if they ask you to.
- Never harass, pressure, mislead or threaten anyone.
8. People's personal details
Scout may give you people's names, handles, profile links, WhatsApp links, messages and the words they posted. Once you have these details, you decide how to use them, and you are responsible for that use under data protection law, including the Data Protection Act, 2019 of Kenya where it applies. You must:
- Use them only to respond to that person's request.
- Not sell, share or publish them, or add them to marketing lists or broadcast groups.
- Keep them secure, and delete them when you no longer need them or when the person asks.
- Respond to any request that person makes about their data.
9. Dealing with Buyers
The contract for any sale is between you and the Buyer. You are responsible for your prices, payment, delivery, installation, returns, refunds, warranties, receipts and customer care, and for honoring what you promise. You are responsible for all taxes on your sales, including any value added tax and income tax. Do not ask Buyers to pay us for your goods, and do not suggest that Scout has inspected, approved or guaranteed anything.
10. Connected accounts and team members
You may connect social, email, messaging and other accounts. You confirm that you control them and are allowed to connect them, and you authorize us to access them within the permissions you grant. You can disconnect them at any time, and some features may stop working. Your own use of those accounts must follow their rules.
If several people work on a business, the person who set it up is responsible for who has access and what they do. Tell us promptly if there is a dispute about who controls a business.
11. Agents and workflows
You choose what your agent looks for and which workflows run. You are responsible for configuring and checking them, including search phrases, products, alert recipients and any connected action. We may limit, pause or stop any agent or workflow that causes harm or abuse, breaks these terms or a provider's terms, or uses excessive resources. Searches depend on what networks make available, and they may be limited, delayed or stopped.
12. Credits
The Plans, Credits and Refunds policy applies to your free daily allowance, to Credits and to credit-backs.
13. Removing Listings and Sellers
We may remove Listings or suspend Sellers, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe that a Listing is false, unlawful or unsafe, that a Seller has misled or harmed Buyers, or that we have received complaints that need review. Repeated complaints or misuse may lead to permanent removal.
14. Your responsibility to us
The indemnity in the Terms of Use covers claims arising from your Listings, your messages, your dealings with Buyers, your use of people's details and your connected accounts.
